Upcoming Workshops and Special Events VIA ZOOM (and some in person)
September National speaker
Janellea Macbeth
Janellea Macbeth is a quilting author, speaker, and thought leader. Janellea enjoys hand piecing, machine piecing, paper piecing, applique, hand quilting, machine quilting, and longarm
quilting. In 2009, Janellea began scrap quilting. As she found her own “quilting voice,” she began to look for ways to streamline the way she dealt with scraps. Jan’s system for cutting, storing, and using scraps evolved over the course of several years. Each iteration of the system moved towards greater flexibility, creativity, and productivity. Ultimately, ScrapStashtic Quilts evolved into an adaptable, easy to implement, appealing and compact system that can support the needs of any sewing room.
At the Saturday Chapter meeting on Sep 7, 2024 Janellea will present ‘Scrapstashtic Shenanigans’. This is a 3-hour, hybrid lecture/workshop combo. It includes a miniature version of the ScrapStashtic lecture that can lightly introduce (or review) the ScrapStashtic System. As well as three fast-hands on scrap-busting sewing projects that will have members quickly making a dent in their scrap-fabric collection. Projects include Slouchy Balls, Monsters, and How’ Bout them Apples. Optional Pattern Pack will be available for purchase (recommended)
At the Monday Day Chapter meeting on Sep 9, 2024 Janellea will present ‘Finish the D@#n Quilt’. This is an inspiring lecture that arms you with tips, tricks, tactics, and a ton of ease and permission around the relationship with the Unfinished Objects that lurk in the corners of sewing studios. This lecture is a breath of fresh air for anyone who has 'been there, done that' with every quilting technique under the sun.
At the Monday Night Chapter meeting on Monday, Sep 9, 2024 Janellea will present her ‘Scrapstashtic Quilts’ Lecture.
On Saturday, Sep 14, 2024 there will be a full day, Scrapstashtic Quilts Workshop. The class fee is
$45. Participants will be required to purchase a book $19.99 from the teacher or from Amazon (the e-book is $9.99).
As a thank you, she would also provide all of the guilds/groups with access to her 7 Day Challenge email course (which normally costs $175 per guild).

TCC/Joint Use Library Exhibit
We have again been asked by the Tidewater Community College/Joint Use Library to hang an exhibit of
our quilts. The exhibit will be hanging from 12 SEPT – 12 DEC 2024.
We are able to hang quilts throughout the library so we will need quilts of all shapes and sizes. The
library particularly liked having quilts which were child focused hanging in the Children’s Room during
our last exhibit. If you have a quilt that was made with a child in mind perhaps you would consider
exhibiting it at the library. We are also able to hang quilts on the handrails of the second floor so that
they drape down as you enter the library. Large quilts look fantastic in this space, so if you have a large
quilt which you would like to exhibit we would love to hang it at the library.
All quilts will need to have a hanging sleeve at least 4” wide and a label showing the name of both the
quilt and the quiltmaker. We will be collecting the quilts at the Sept Saturday and Night Chapter
meetings. This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase our Guild to a huge audience so I hope many of
you will be putting quilts in the exhibit.
If you have a quilt (or more) that you would like to enter into the exhibit please email me at
[email protected] with the name of the quilt and the size.
