From November through June, we are focusing on one traditional block and learning to make it modern. We encourage everyone to play along by making a block each month. Keep the size of your blocks consistent and not less then 12” square. You have two options:
1. Just piece the top and when we are all done you will have nine to make a sampler quilt.
2. Make the block, quilt the block, and join it quilt as you go after nine months.
Either way we look forward to seeing your blocks each month. Beginning in December we will have show and tell first so you can hold up your blocks.
Speaking of challenges, if you did not finish, keep working on your Viva Magenta quilt. You can add it in to Show and Tell at any upcoming meeting. We hope to have a very magenta exhibit at the June Quilt Show.
April 16 - Have you ever wondered how some quilts are made with such precision and perfect points. The answer may be Foundation Paper Piecing. Join Deb Garrett and Catherine Reilly when they discuss the topic at the Modern Group’s April meeting. They will discuss a brief history of the process which is widely used today. Join us on April 16, 2024 at 6:30 pm on Zoom.

Remember that there is no one magenta fabric that has to be used. You will need to select your own magenta fabric and the only requirements for the challenge is that it be modern, contain at least10% magenta, and be done by Sept. 1. Here is the magenta image from Pantone you can take to the fabric shop or your stash to decide on your fabric.

A new Zoom Drop-In for this group is starting in February 2023. On the first Tuesday of the month from 7:00 pm—8:00 pm with a 6:30—7:00 social time.
Initially the meetings were planned for 7 months but the response has been wonderful and will continue with members taking ownership of the group and continuing forward. Come join and share your knowledge and curiosity about modern quilts.
Purpose: to explore Modern quilting techniques and characteristics. Each month we will explore one of the hall marks of modern quilting with demonstrations or video. Participants will be encourages to make a quilted block by playing with that technique to show at the next month’s meeting (our Show and Tell). We will record meetings for those who can not make a particular month.
